FOOTBALL 2008

WEST ADAMS 42 SANTEE 7

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE

WEST ADAMS PANTHERS

In there game Friday night against the Santee Falcons the West Adams panthers were able to secure the Southern League title in only their second year of existence.

In a very exciting game that had several lead changes the Panthers were able to hold off the Falcons final surge with   a league leading 7th interception by their safety Deon Hawkins.  With Joey Vercher rushing 15 times for 98 yds and QB Karrington Jones passing 7 of 7 for 158 yds and 3 touchdowns the Panthers just outplayed the Falcons with team football.

They need to continue to play the type of football they have been playing to go deep into the city invitional playoffs.

This Friday folks don't miss the Game of the Week.

CRENSHAW SMASHES DORSEY

34-0

The Dons hosted the Cougars on Thursday night and were not able to get in gear all night. Dorsey had some bright spots on the Defense but never had a decent show on offense.

The cougars on the other hand were able to throw to college bound receiver Noel Grisby by freezing the defense with the running game of Hayes Pullard and DeAnthony Thomas. This type of one , two punch hasn't been seen in the Coliseum league since the days of Jeremiah and Stafon Johnson (not related) of Dorsey.

With this victory the Cougars can pretty much claim the Coliseum league title but you can be sure that Coach Robert Garrett is only looking at one victory at a time and making no predictions...

Jordan gets back on track against South East

Last week the Bulldogs of Jordan had a wakeup call at Roosevelt. This week the Bulldogs were able to get back on their path of conference wins even though they may have lost all chances of winning the league title.

Coach Asante stated that ,"no one needs a loss but we were able to grow as a team from  the Roosevelt game. Our kids needed to get their focus back before the playoffs start".

For whatever reasons, the Bulldogs put up 53 points against South East in true team fashion. With USC bound QB James Boyd throwing 26 of 36 for 368 yds and 4 touchdowns the Dogs were able to do whatever they pleased. Its time to gel because the playoffs are just around the corner

Coach of the Week

All the Coaches

For successfully making a winner out of all the athletes in the city. When we say winner we mean winning at a higher level than 10-0 or 0-10. Winning is the process that keeps a kid from going astray from April in the spring, to passing league, to Hell week on through the season. This is a task that it takes a very special person to accomplish. Those of us who coach, know, there is much more to coaching than just wins and losses.

HOW LONG WILL WE ALLOW THE SELECTION COMMITTEE TO SCORN OUR CHILDREN ON WHAT WAS A VALID TECHNICALITY? BY NOT HAVING A POST SEASON PLAYOFF BRACKETING SYSTEM THAT ENDS AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS WOULD BE SIMILAR TO TEXAS AND LOUISIANA OOPS, THAT WOULD MEAN THAT ITS DONE FAIR . IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, HOW CAN WE CALL THIS A CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS SHOULD BE CALLED THE HIGH SCHOOL BCS SYSTEM. IS A CHAMPIONSHIP REALLY A CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN IT'S PICKED AND NOT PLAYED FOR. I GUESS WE WILL FIND OUT ONE DAY.
