WEEK TEN

FOOTBALL 2008

Arleta 64 Van Nuys 0

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE

ARLETA MUSTANGS

The Arleta Mustangs are on the verge of going undefeated in only their second year of Varsity Football existence. They have dismantled the East Valley League  by allowing  their opponents a total of 21 points except for   Verdugo Hills who they will play Friday.

Coach Engilman has this group of kids playing some real sound, mistake free football. It is going to be fun as we watch how far this team will be able to go in the playoffs.  By the way, the playoffs begin next week.....................

This Friday folks don't miss the Game of the Week.

Franklin takes control of the North

Franklin 29 Lincoln 20

The Panthers were able to take complete control of the Northern League Friday night as they out played the Lincoln Tigers  for what  probably will be, the league title game.

They will have to lose to Eagle Rock, for the Wilson Mules to even have a chance of tying for first place. With Adrian Diaz having already thrown for 1605 yard  and 8 touchdowns the Panthers are able to utilize their  strong running game with Enrique Maclas (96 carries for 667 and 8 TDs) and William Hernandez (72 carries for 406 and 11 TDs).

The Franklin team is not looking past Eagle Rock because they know that anything can happen in the Northern league............

WESTCHESTER 34 HAMILTON 10

On a Friday night that included Homecoming festivities, an Alumni section, and a capacity crowd it seemed as though the Comets of Westchester became supercharged.

The game started very slow as the Yankees jumped out to a 10-6 lead and it appeared as though the Comets were going to suffer a horrible loss due to poor play calling and execution. As the Alumni section cheered it seemed to have an energizing effect on the team who has not played in front of a home crowd this size in years.

With the running attack of Andre Buford (11 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns) the Comets were sprung to life and handed the Yankees a smash mouth whuppin for a Western league victory

Coach of the Week

All the Coaches

For successfully making a winner out of all the athletes in the city. When we say winner we mean winning at a higher level than 10-0 or 0-10. Winning is the process that keeps a kid from going astray from April in the spring, to passing league, to Hell week on through the season. This is a task that it takes a very special person to accomplish. Those of us who coach, know, there is much more to coaching than just wins and losses.

First and goal meets Eric Dickerson

HOW LONG WILL WE ALLOW THE SELECTION COMMITTEE TO SCORN OUR CHILDREN ON WHAT WAS A VALID TECHNICALITY? BY NOT HAVING A POST SEASON PLAYOFF BRACKETING SYSTEM THAT ENDS AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, SIMILAR TO TEXAS AND LOUISIANA.  HOW CAN WE CALL THIS A CHAMPIONSHIP, THIS SHOULD BE CALLED THE HIGH SCHOOL BCS SYSTEM. IS A CHAMPIONSHIP REALLY A CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN IT'S PICKED AND NOT PLAYED FOR. I GUESS WE WILL FIND OUT ONE DAY.
