FOOTBALL 2008

Crenshaw played like the Homecoming King Crenshaw 49 Fremont 8

In the Game of the Week Friday the Crenshaw Cougars played Fremont on Homecoming without starting Quarterback Marquis Thompson (dislocated shoulder) and never missed a beat. The Pathfinders never quite found a rhythm until late in the fourth quarter but that was to little to late. On a night when the stands were full because alumni packed the house, the Cougar's played run and pass all night, with DeAnthony Thomas, Hayes Pullard, Noel Grisby and Gregory Ducre, eating up yards on the ground and passing at will. Gino Hall received the start at QB and played until he received some sort of back injury in the third quarter.

Coach Garrett should be commended for pulling all starters and allowing the bench to play in the second half, Using QB Deondre Hinton and RB Gregory Norwood. The Pathfinders QB George Limbrick did a lot of running and was able to complete several passes including one for a touchdown to Fremont's sure handed receiver Ryan Smith. Fremont just couldnt handle the intensity that Crenshaw was playing with......

This Friday folks don't miss the Game of the Week.

SAN PEDRO

vs

NARBONNE

7:00pm

This year the City  Section teams did not fare to well against the Southern Section.

Although I must say some of the games were  much closer than years before but  the SS ended this preseason with the most victories.

In Friday night intersectional action the city section was beaten in several games outscored by a total of 215-93

We need to do better..

Eaglerock and Jordan had touble with Cathedral and St Bonnies

West Adams 54 Hollywood 14

Friday afternoon the W.A Panthers could do no wrong in a Southern league contest against the Hollywood Shieks. The Panthers played good football on both sides of the ball.

The team is lead by JR. QB Karrington Jones who has a full arsonal to help him to victory. RB's (34) Joey Vercher, (4) Fred atkins and (5) James Griffis are hard runners. The receiving core of (7)Terrance Montgomery and (9)Anthony Sheffield are sure targets that the QB can depend on. The offense as a unit has combined for 720 yds passing and 749 yds rushing.

The Shieks were able to score 14 points but they were outplayed and on this day in Hollywood, the Panthers were the only stars shining.

The Shieks looked to the sideline for answers and even tried to go over the top

But they had no answer for the Panthers

Coach of the Week

All the Coaches

For successfully making a winner out of all the athletes in the city. When we say winner we mean winning at a higher level than 10-0 or 0-10. Winning is the process that keeps a kid from going astray from April in the spring, to passing league, to Hell week on through the season. This is a task that it takes a very special person to accomplish. Those of us who coach, know, there is much more to coaching than just wins and losses.

First and goal meets Eric Dickerson

HOW LONG WILL WE ALLOW THE SELECTION COMMITTEE TO SCORN OUR CHILDREN ON WHAT WAS A VALID TECHNICALITY? BY NOT HAVING A POST SEASON PLAYOFF BRACKETING SYSTEM THAT ENDS AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS WOULD BE SIMILAR TO TEXAS AND LOUISIANA OOPS, THAT WOULD MEAN THAT ITS DONE FAIR . IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, HOW CAN WE CALL THIS A CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS SHOULD BE CALLED THE HIGH SCHOOL BCS SYSTEM. IS A CHAMPIONSHIP REALLY A CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN IT'S PICKED AND NOT PLAYED FOR. I GUESS WE WILL FIND OUT ONE DAY.
