FOOTBALL 2008

MARINE LEAGUE BATTLES, WILL ALWAYS BE HARD FOUGHT FOOTBALL GAMES Narbonne 27 San Pedro 24

In the Game of the Week Friday the Narbonne Gauchos, hosted the San Pedro Pirates for the first time at night at Narbonne and boy was it a game to remember.

It took three overtimes for this game to be decided and it still came with controversial plays and strange calls by the officials. The game ended in regulation with the score tied 6-6 and then the real game began. The San Pedro defense was stingy as it has been all year but not stingy enough to keep the Gauchos out of the end zone this night.

Josh Moten would throw 18 of 28 for 134 yds and 3TD's, but the last TD was the sweetest, for the win. These two teams are not finished yet. We will have to wait and see, they are now tied for first place in the Marine league with a 6-1 record, advantage Narbonne. Woooooow.....

THE JORDAN BULLDOGS RAN INTO THAT ROUGHRIDER WALL ON FRIDAY NIGHT

On a day when then USC bound James Boyd was 12 of 30 for 186yds and 3 TD's it meant nothing to East LA's finest. Led by the Quarterbacking of Jesse Diaz the Roughriders were able to put up 38 points on the Bulldogs to all but spoil their hopes of winning the Eastern league title.

The Eastern league has become somewhat a power in the last couple of years with sound play and postseason appearances by every team in the league with the exception of Bell and SouthGate. Remember, Huntington Park beat EagleRock last year and the Garfield Bulldogs played for the City Invitational Championship.

This League is starting to make a louder noise nowadays it seems because other teams are listening.

Palisades 21 Westchester 20

The scene at Westchester was one in which there wasnt much defense or offense but there still seemed to be an exciting game being played.

On a day when Westchester's Andre Buford would run 19 times for 160 yds and catch two passes for 70 this has the sound of a Comet victory. But the Dolphins of Pali would not stand idle and just let this happen. With the game ending in regulation tied 14-14 it had already been decided that overtime would decide the fate of one team or another.

In a spectacular play by Westchester's Chris Jacobs the Comets would score first in OT. Unfortunately with all the post TD celebrating the Comets were penalized and missed the extra point.

Palisades wasted no time scoring and converted on the PAT to get the win before anyone could remember that the Comets had even scored. Palisades is now tied for first in the Western League with Fairfax. But Venice is coming fast and strong.....................

Chis Jacobs run put the comets in front

A kick similar to this one ended the hope for a Comet victory

Coach of the Week

All the Coaches

For successfully making a winner out of all the athletes in the city. When we say winner we mean winning at a higher level than 10-0 or 0-10. Winning is the process that keeps a kid from going astray from April in the spring, to passing league, to Hell week on through the season. This is a task that it takes a very special person to accomplish. Those of us who coach, know, there is much more to coaching than just wins and losses.

HOW LONG WILL WE ALLOW THE SELECTION COMMITTEE TO SCORN OUR CHILDREN ON WHAT WAS A VALID TECHNICALITY? BY NOT HAVING A POST SEASON PLAYOFF BRACKETING SYSTEM THAT ENDS AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS WOULD BE SIMILAR TO TEXAS AND LOUISIANA OOPS, THAT WOULD MEAN THAT ITS DONE FAIR . IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, HOW CAN WE CALL THIS A CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS SHOULD BE CALLED THE HIGH SCHOOL BCS SYSTEM. IS A CHAMPIONSHIP REALLY A CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN IT'S PICKED AND NOT PLAYED FOR. I GUESS WE WILL FIND OUT ONE DAY.
