First and Goal

Player of the Week

is

#21 Chris Loatman

of the

Mira Costa Mustangs

At 6'0" 190lbs this RB/lB is part of the chemistry that makes this team have a 7-3 record. This young man's ability to play on both sides of the ball is incredible.  He has run 143 times for 713 yards. What really makes this athlete special is the fact that Chris is hearing impaired and it has never stopped him from playing this game at a high level. As a child Chris was kept on the defensive side of the ball. In 2004 in youth football Chris was moved to the offensive side of the ball because of his speed and strength. He has been running through defenses every since.

Jordan of Long Beach players say that they are ready to make a run for the Moore League title this year. The buzz in North Long Beach is that the football team has overcome issues that troubled the program in the past and that they are now playing as a team. The loss to Santa Monica last week was the first this season and they are about to begin league play. Millikan will be a test this Friday, but their entire league schedule will take a team effort and mistake free football if they want to earn a playoff spot.  First and Goal will follow L.B. Jordan thru league.

Jordan 21 Lakewood 14

Jordan 22 Compton 38 oops

"THE GAME THAT WE ALL"

WAITED FOR

The Serra Cavaliers went downtown on a mission to defeat the Cathedral Phantoms. What they found, was a football team with a different strategy than they expected. It was suppose to be the spread vs the spread. Cathedral show up in the Double Wing "T" making it impossible for the Cavs to play pass defense.

The game would see several lead changes and at the end of regulation the score would be tied 16-16. In the overtime period there were two interesting plays.

First there was Cathedral's Anthony Jefferson clearly intercepting a ball in the endzone but the official called it a touchdown for Serra.

Then, there was a missed extra point by the Cathedral kicker that would be the deciding factor in the game.  The Serra team would go back to Gardena undefeated and one step closer to a showdown with Oaks Christian.

Poly is Once again the Moore League Champion

With a win over the 7-3 Panthers of Long Beach Jordan, the Long Beach Poly Jack Rabbits are once again  Moore League champions. The real story here is that after some horrible seasons LB Jordan seems to have been given a new lease on football. The Panthers were able to put together a nice showing this season with 7wins and 3 losses allowing them an opportunity to face Mater Dei  on Friday in Santa Ana.
