First and Goal

Player of the Week

is

#44 Gage Mortesen

of the

El Segundo Eagles

At 6'0" 190lbs this RB/lB is part of the chemistry that makes this team have a 7-2 record. This young man's ability to play on both sides of the ball is incredible. In the Lawndale game Mortesen had 14 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown. He also had 16 tackles and 12 solos in the same game. Teams have to constantly know the wherabouts of this Eagle football player............

Jordan of Long Beach players say that they are ready to make a run for the Moore League title this year. The buzz in North Long Beach is that the football team has overcome issues that troubled the program in the past and that they are now playing as a team. The loss to Santa Monica last week was the first this season and they are about to begin league play. Millikan will be a test this Friday, but their entire league schedule will take a team effort and mistake free football if they want to earn a playoff spot.  First and Goal will follow L.B. Jordan thru league.

Jordan 21 Millikan 7

Jordan 21 Lakewood 14

Jordan 22 Compton 38 oops

Jordan 31 Wilson 27

THE GAME THAT WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR

GARDENA  SERRA VS CATHEDRAL

This game has been anticipated by both schools since the begining of the season. Both programs are firing on all cylinders at this time, both schools are 9-0 and 8-1 respectively, the difference is going to be coaching , execution and mistake free football.

The Cavs have ripped through teams from the City section such as Carson and Taft with their high scoring offense led by Quarterback Ted Landers 93 of 137 for 1577yards and 24 touchdowns and he enjoys throwing most of those passes to Robert Woods 38 catches for 766 yards and 11 touchdowns. Serra can also run the ball with running back Carl Winston 143 carries for 1158 yards and 14 touchdowns. Serra will come after you with a balanced attack.

The Phantoms have beaten their opponents by using Coach Pearsons spread offense led by Quarterback Shaun Alexander 142 of 231 for 2295 yards and 22 touchdowns. His main targets are (State 100 & 200 meter champion) Randoll Carroll or "OC" as he is commonly referred to, or Anthony Jefferson with 1281 yards between the two. He can also throw to Kevin Ally the other speedster acquired this year as a transfer from Dorsey who has been used as an extra receiver and a special teams player.

This game should be exciting, but with Serra's size and strength it could possibly turn into a blowout if Cathedral is not careful. The Phantoms play steady. The Cavs hit hard and fast. Cathedral's only loss this season came at the hands of Harvard-Westlake and I am sure that even though Serra beat Harvard-Westlake,  their coaching staff has studied every piece of film  for any extra advantage.

This should be a very exciting game............

A MESS IN THE MOORE LEAGUE

With a win over the 8-2 Panthers of Long Beach Jordan, the Long Beach Poly Jack Rabbits will once again be Moore League champions. If Jordan finds a way to win this game and Compton beats Lakewood there could possibly a three way tie for first place between Poly, Jordan and Compton. which would probably need some type of tie breaker because Compton beat Jordan and Poly beat Compton. Lets not put the cart before the horse. First Jordan has to beat Poly. PERIOD.......
