First and Goal

Player of the Week

#15

Victor Burnett

of  the

CULVER CITY CENTAURS

This JR. Linebacker is one of the key factors of the Culver City defense. He is 6 feet tall and 220 pounds with a knack for finding the ball carrier.

So far in five weeks of play he has gotten 32 solos and 38 assist for a total of 70 tackles. Burnett has also recorded 6 sacks. This is surely the kind of player that you want on your defense. Keep your eye on this one he has another year to play.

Where did the Dons Go??

The team that was almost unstoppable in the years past, playing for two straight CIF D3 titles has all but disappeared starting the season off with a dismal 0-5 record.

The coaching changes and personal changes have really made a difference in the Don's program. They cant seem to get it going anymore, scoring 41 and giving up 82 their defense is suspect and their offense is sputtering.

This week they will face the Gahr Gladiators and their high scoring spread offense. We will see if the necessary changes have made allowing the Don's to get  "W" by finding  offense and playing some defense.

Jordan of Long Beach players say that they are ready to make a run for the Moore League title this year. The buzz in North Long Beach is that the football team has overcome issues that troubled the program in the past and that they are now playing as a team. The loss to Santa Monica last week was the first this season and they are about to begin league play. Millikan will be a test this Friday, but their entire league schedule will take a team effort and mistake free football if they want to earn a playoff spot.

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT  LYNWOOD?

The latest news in the San Gabriel Valley league is about the way the 4-0-1 Lynwood Knights are playing football these days. The Knights have emerged as a power just at the right time.

They have a powerful rushing game with three backs, Isam Pegus 43 carries for 369yds and 4tds, Artkiest Jones 31 carries for 346yds and 4tds, Kevin Ayers31 carries for 259yds and 7 tds,Vachel Samuels 22 carries for 182 and 3 tds. This is a balanced running attack.

QB James Grisom has thrown 32 of 54  for 444yds and 2 touchdowns to receivers such as Michael Allen with 21 catches for 321 yds and 2 tds. The Knights are also stingy on defense only giving up 47 points this year.

Though their League is still tough with Dominguez, Gahr and Paramount  we will see if the Knights can redeem the season in which they forfeited all their games on a rules violation. They are playing good football now, will they be playing like this until December. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
